In The Lord of the Flies, the forest symbolizes the unknown and darkness. Fear and trouble. The boys were terrified of the forest at night, and the thick vines and growth made it very hard to traverse even in the day.

The forest in Lord of the Flies symbolizes the unknown and the inherent darkness within human nature. It reflects the boys' fears and represents their descent into savagery and isolation from civilization. As they venture deeper into the forest, they confront their primal instincts and the reality of the darkness within themselves.
