How are adenine and guanine alike and different?

Asked by joeggshs

They both are constituents of DNA. Adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine are the glue that holds together the two sugar-phosphate strands which form the back-bone of DNA. The order in which these bases occur is what stores the information in DNA.

Adenine and guanine are both purine bases found in DNA and RNA, sharing a double-ring structure. They differ in their pairing partners, with adenine pairing with thymine (or uracil in RNA) and guanine pairing with cytosine. Additionally, guanine contains an oxygen atom in its structure, unlike adenine.
