Julia and Lena started reading a science fiction book at the same time. During the first week, Lena read 10 more pages than Julia. The following week, Lena read 14 pages, and Julia read the same number of pages she read the first week. Now they are on the same page.

Which equation can you use to find [tex]$j$[/tex], the number of pages Julia read during the first week?
[tex]$j+10+14=j+j$[/tex]
[tex]$j+10=j+j+14$[/tex]

How many pages did Julia read during the first week?
$\square$ pages

Answer (3)

Y = 1st angle X = 2nd angle
Y = 3X - 16
90 = X + Y
90 = X + (3X -16)
Do some algebra and X=26.5
So substitute x back in to find y, and Y=63.5

**Two angles are supplementary one angle is 4 degrees less than three times the other find the measures of the angles **
**x + y = 180 **
**x = 3y - 4 **
**3y - 4 + y = 180 **
**4y = 184 **
**y = 46 **
x = 134 ;

The first angle measures 49 degrees, while the second angle measures 131 degrees. Together, these two angles are supplementary, as their sum equals 180 degrees. The relationship between the angles satisfies the conditions given in the problem.
