A 500 kg mass is moving with a force of -215 N. There is a +115 N force due to friction. What is the acceleration of the mass?
[tex]a=[?] m / s^2[/tex]

Hint: [tex]F_{\text {net }}=m \cdot a[/tex]

The NET force acting to accelerate the bod is then

215 N + 115 N = - 100 N

Newton's law states:
F = ma
so ** a = F/m = -100 N / 500 kg = - .2 m/s^2 ** ;
