In each story, we need to identify the parts of a plot: Exposition (E), Rising Action (RA), Climax (C), Falling Action (FA), and Resolution (R).
The Lost Puppy
Exposition (E): Mia and her little brother Jake moved to a new house in a quiet neighborhood. They loved dogs but didn't have one yet.
This introduces the setting and characters.
Rising Action (RA): One day, they heard a barking sound outside and saw a small puppy shivering near their porch.
This introduces a problem or event that builds suspense.
Climax (C): The puppy jumped out of Mia's arms and ran into the woods!
This is the turning point or the most exciting part of the story.
Falling Action (FA): Jake and Mia chased the puppy and found it stuck in a bush. They helped it out and brought it home.
This shows how the characters solve the problem or the events that lead to the resolution.
Resolution (R): A week later, their parents said they could keep the puppy. They named it Max and gave it a cozy bed.
This concludes the story and shows how the problem is resolved.
The Missing Lunchbox
Exposition (E): It was the first day of school, and Ava was excited to meet her new classmates and teacher.
This sets the scene and introduces the protagonist.
Rising Action (RA): At lunchtime, Ava went to her backpack—but her lunchbox was gone.
This starts the central problem of the story.
Rising Action (RA): She searched all around the classroom, in her desk, and under the table, but couldn't find it.
This builds tension and further develops the problem.
Climax (C): Then, her friend Jake called out, "Ava! I think I found your lunchbox in the room!"
This is the turning point where the problem begins to be resolved.
Falling Action (FA): Ava ran to the art room and saw her blue lunchbox sitting on a shelf next to paint bottles.
This is when the situation starts to resolve.
Resolution (R): She thanked Jake, grabbed her lunch, and smiled as she sat with her friend.
This concludes the story and demonstrates the resolution of the problem.
In "The Lost Puppy," the plot elements are identified as Exposition (E), Rising Action (RA), Climax (C), Falling Action (FA), and Resolution (R). In "The Missing Lunchbox," the same elements are found, detailing Ava's excitement and her struggle to find her lunchbox. Both stories illustrate the classic structure of a narrative plot.
