The speed from home base to airport was: v = 255 mi l es /1.7 h / : 1.7 v = 150 m p h The speed from airport to home base was: v = 255 mi l es /1.5 h / : 1.5 v = 170 m p h Average speed of plane was: 2 170 m p h + 150 m p h = 160 m p h Average speed of wind was: x − w in d s p ee d ( m p h ) 150 + x = 170 − x / + x 150 + 2 x = 170 / − 150 2 x = 20 / : 2 x = 10 Answer: Average speed of plane was 160mph and average speed of wind was 10mph.
I hope I helped :D
