Where are most faults located?

What is a fault in scientific terms?

You can almost ALWAYS find a fault at the edge of a boundary or between the earths' surface and the fault plane. A fault in scientific terms is basically just a crack in the earth's surface that has movement among the fault.

Faults are fractures in the Earth's crust where movement occurs, primarily located at or near tectonic plate boundaries. They vary in size and type, influencing the occurrence of earthquakes when stress is released. Most damaging faults lie deep within the Earth's crust but can also be observed at the surface.
