How were chariot drivers protected in the Circus Maximus?

They wore knee pads and shoulder pads and chest pads and carried a pocket knife around with them if they were to get tangled in the reins on the chariot and get trampled on. Oh and don't forget a shiny hard helmet

Chariot drivers in the Circus Maximus were protected by hard helmets, body armor like knee and shoulder pads, and sometimes carried a pocket knife for emergencies. This protection was essential due to the high risks involved in chariot racing, especially during competitive events. The sport was not only dangerous but also a path to fame and wealth for successful charioteers.
