Jamestown succeeded economically through the cultivation of tobacco, introduced by John Rolfe in 1612. This cash crop turned the struggling colony into a profitable enterprise, leading to the establishment of plantations and increased labor demands. As a result, Jamestown became a vital part of the Virginia Company's success in the New World.
