It was the Roman empire which was started in Rome, the capitol city of the Roman empire. The city expanded and became an empire which then conquered many countries, including all of the land where Greece is at. The Roman empire adopted many arts of the former Greek empire. They especially adopted the ways of its art and culture as you can see in writing and plays/entertainment. Most people in the Roman empire spoke Greek because of the Greek commander, Alexander the Great which established the state language of Greece whihc the Roman empire took as its official language.
