Why is there a picture of a bear on the cover, but the novel is titled "Sign of the Beaver"?

If you read the book, the story is about a boy who survives in his dad's log cabin all alone for a long period of time. He eventually beferiends a Native American boy and the Native American boy shows him the sign of the Beaver which is the sign that shows that it is the territory of the Beaver tribe

Maybe it's a beaver, but you can't see the tail?

The bear on the cover of "Sign of the Beaver" represents the wilderness and challenges faced by the protagonist, Matt. While the title relates to the significance of the beaver and its connection to Native American culture, the bear highlights the adventure and nature that are central to the story. Overall, both elements reflect different but essential themes within the narrative.
