You are getting a larger aquarium for your neon tetra fish and you also want to add more tetras to the larger aquarium. The general rule is that each fish needs 2 gallons of water. You currently have 6 neon tetras. If you buy a 20-gallon aquarium, what are the possible numbers of fish you can put in your aquarium? Explain your answer.

Answer (3)

6 x 2 = 12 (2 gallons x 6 fish)
20 - 12 = 8 (20 gallons - 12 gallons)
8 / 2 = 4 (8 gallons / 2 gallons per each fish)
6 + 4 = 10 (6 original fish + 4 new fish)
So you can have 10 fish in total.
Or just do...
20 / 2 = 10 (20 gallons / 2 gallons per fish) = 10 fish

Using the rule that each neon tetra requires 2 gallons of water, you can add up to 4 more neon tetras to a 20-gallon aquarium, giving you a total of 10 neon tetras. ;

In a 20-gallon aquarium, you can keep a total of 10 neon tetras by considering that each fish requires 2 gallons of water. You already have 6 tetras, which need 12 gallons, leaving 8 gallons for 4 additional tetras. Therefore, the maximum capacity for your aquarium is 10 fish in total.
