How do I solve \(4 \frac{5}{8} + 1 \frac{3}{4}\)?

Answer (3)

4 8 5 โ€‹ + 1 4 3 โ€‹ Put aside the whole numbers 8 5 โ€‹ + 4 3 โ€‹ You need to have a common denominator(bottom) 4 3 โ€‹ ร— 2 2 โ€‹ = 8 6 โ€‹ So 8 5 โ€‹ + 8 6 โ€‹ = 8 11 โ€‹ You then divide the numerator by the denominator 11รท8=1 8 3 โ€‹ Add that to the original whole numbers 1 8 3 โ€‹ + 4 + 1 = 6 8 3 โ€‹ There is another way to do this but I decided to do it this way.

You find the common denominator for 3/4 and 5/8, which would be 8. Then, the problem turns into 4 5/8 + 1 6/8. You would add them to get the final answer of 6 3/8

To solve 4 8 5 โ€‹ + 1 4 3 โ€‹ , first convert both mixed numbers to improper fractions. After finding a common denominator and adding the fractions, convert the result back to a mixed number to get 6 8 3 โ€‹ .
