A cell biologist treated some cells with a stain and found that it was concentrated within the mitochondria of many types of cells. Which conclusion could the cell biologist draw regarding the results of this test?

A. The stain could be used to identify mitochondria in living cells.
B. The stain could be used to determine if cells were alive or dead.
C. All stains will be absorbed by mitochondria.
D. All mitochondria create stains.

A
B is wrong because mitochondria would likely absorb the stain even if it was dead.(And most cells that have been treated are dead anyway). C and D are just throwaway answers, you usually want to avoid the word "always" when drawing conclusions.

The most appropriate conclusion is that the stain specifically labels mitochondria in the cells due to its concentration within these organelles. Thus, the conclusion drawn can highlight the presence of mitochondria in the sampled cells. The correct answer is not explicitly present in the options provided; however, options A and C come close yet are not entirely valid as not all stains will affect living cells or be absorbed by all mitochondria.
