The Egyptian ruler who built a temple at Abu Simbel is Ramses II, who reigned from 1279 to 1213 BCE. The Great Temple features four colossal statues of him carved into the mountainside as a statement of power and divine connection. The temples were relocated in the 1960s to prevent flooding and are now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
