congress was reluctant to approve the marshall plan because they believed it would be a waste of money and it was unnecessary however a soviet uprising in czechoslovakia finally prompted them to sign it as they knew they needed to stop the expansion of communism (policy of containment)

Congress was initially hesitant to approve the Marshall Plan due to concerns about its cost and opposition to foreign aid. However, the Soviet takeover in Czechoslovakia prompted a shift, leading Congress to realize the importance of stabilizing Europe to counter communism. This change resulted in the approval of significant aid to help foster economic recovery in Europe.
