On D-Day, June 6, 1944, the Allied forces faced significant challenges, with the American troops suffering the greatest losses, particularly at Omaha Beach where over 2,400 Americans were casualties. Overall, about 10,000 Allied troops were reported as casualties, highlighting the fierce resistance met during the invasion. Despite these losses, the successful landings allowed the Allies to establish a foothold in France, leading to further advances against Nazi Germany.
