A metal rod 9.4 meters long is cut into two pieces. One piece is 3 times as long as the other. Find the length of the longer piece in meters. Round your answer to the nearest tenth of a meter.

The smaller one is a quarter of the original ( 1 + 3 1 ​ ). That is, 2.35. The longer one is 3 times that: 7.05. Rounding gives us 7.1 meters.

Clue for your help x-first piece 3x-2nd piece
it says that if u add them it will be 9.4 so 3x+x=9.4 4x=9.4 x=2.35
so the first piece is 2.45 while the 2nd piece is 3(2.35) =7.05

The longer piece of the rod measures 7.1 meters after rounding to the nearest tenth. The shorter piece is 2.4 meters long. Together, they add up to the original length of 9.4 meters.
