Why are chromosomes important to heredity?

Asked by KaylaStowman

Answer (2)

Chromosomes contain genes which contain alleles, and these are basically traits (the phenotype). Heredity is the transfer of genes, and children get half the chromosomes from each parent.

Chromosomes are crucial for heredity as they carry genetic information in the form of genes, which are responsible for inherited traits. The Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance supports the understanding that chromosomes undergo specific behaviors during division that ensure proper gene transmission. This mechanism is essential for genetic diversity and the successful propagation of traits across generations.
