Why are there many alveoli in the lungs?

*it is so because : lungs have to exchange the gases between itself and the surrounding capillaries so for this purpose a larger surface area is required ,, having a large number of alveoli provide large surface area.. *

There is a much greater surface area for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide.

The numerous alveoli in the lungs, about 300 million in total, significantly increase the surface area available for gas exchange. Their thin walls and elastic structure allow for efficient diffusion of oxygen into the blood and removal of carbon dioxide. This maximized surface area is crucial for maintaining proper respiratory function and overall health.
